What is a Fairy Garden?

A Fairy Garden is a miniature garden complete with furniture, structures and actual living plants.  It is basically an indoor garden, a place to tend and enjoy in any size room at any time of the year.  It is a place in your house that the fairies can finally call home.

At RSF we have been creating these miniature gardens for several years and their popularity continues to amaze us.  We are now offering on site classes at your convenience or we will happily travel to a site of your preference.  Prices start at $35.00 a person and include a box, soil and three plants.  We have all of the miniature furniture available for an additional charge.

What’s Included:

1 Planting Box

1 Wooden Base (lid)

1 Bag of Potting Soil

1 Piece of Flagstone

1 Arbor

1 Bench

1 Birdhouse

Fairy Dust

$62.00

Ready…

Begin by inserting large  plastic liner into the planting box.  The liner should fit snuggly without having to force it into the box.

Empty the contents of the bag of soil into the box and break up any clumps.  “Fluff” the soil until it’s light and airy with a smooth surface.

Using a watering can, moisten the soil by sprinkling the top layer with water until the soil is dark in color.  If water comes out of the bottom a little this is okay.

Set…

Design your Fairy Garden™ by first developing a plan.  We suggest laying out your Fairy Plants™ and furniture in the container before actually planting.  A piece of flagstone has been included to use as a patio.  It can also be broken up with a hammer and used as stepping stones for a small path.

Grow…

Once you’ve developed a plan, it’s time to plant.  Remove all of the furniture except the arbor.  Leave each plant in its spot so you’ll remember where it goes.  Remove each plant one at a time by tenderly squeezing the sides of the container and then gently pulling on the plant until it slides easily from the container.

Next, tickle your Fairy Plant’s™ roots by gently pulling them apart until the root ball is nice and loose.  Dig a small hole where you want the plant and place it so that the soil line (top of the soil) of the plant is lined up with the soil line in the box.  Now loosely pack the soil around root ball.  Continue for all remaining Fairy Plants™.

If you have chosen trailing plants for your arbor place one on each side and plant as described earlier.  Once completed weave the vines through the arbor walls so the plant vines upward.

Once you’ve finished planting your plants it’s time to add your Fairy Gardening™ furniture and accessories.

In order to ensure proper draining, take the lid from the Fairy Gardening™ package and place it face down on the table or spot where you’ll be placing your Fairy Garden™.  Insert the second liner between the two wooden slabs and place the entire Fairy Garden™ on top of this base.

Complete your Fairy Garden™ by adding a pinch of fairy dust and setting it in a bright, sunny, warm location.

Growing on…

During warmer times of the year your Fairy Garden™ can be placed outside as long as it doesn’t freeze.  At colder times of the year remember to bring inside.  Most of the plants in your Fairy Gardening™  set are drought tolerant so be sure to let the soil dry slightly between watering.  Soil should be slightly moist and will stick together when pressed.

Using a watering can with a breaker is recommended.  We also recommend fertilizing your Fairy Plants™ with a common fertilizer once a month.

As your plants continue to grow, you may want to trim them.  If so, just remember not to cut more than half of each Fairy Plant ™  back at one time.

Happy Fairy Gardening™!
